Udeechya has been mentioned as a synonym to Hribera or Sugandhabaala (other names would be Baalam,Baalaka, Keshanama [all the synonyms used for kesha], Ambunama [all the synonyms used for Jala] Sugandha balaas per Bhavaprakasha nighantu. Based on the commentators mention, the plant has been equated to Pavonia odorata or Plectranthus spp (even Coleus vettiveroides and Coleus forskohlii are also used as Hribera) as specified in Shahul ji & Anandji's comments. Personal View: None of the part in these plants can go very well with the synonyms of Kesha or Ambu.
The officinal part of Udeechya shall be the roots. Looking into the synonyms it might be a Poaceae member (fibrous roots resembling hairs), which shall be blackish & aromatic (sugandha baala) and grown nearby water bodies. One has to rethink about its identity.
Sharing an information: In Siddha system of medicine, there are drugs Vettiver & Vilamichi ver used. As how Usheera (is vettiver) & Udeechya (is vilamichi ver) appear together in Ayurveda.
Had seen the roots of this Vilamichi ver which goes very well with Udeechya's explanation (kind of blackish, aromatic & hairlike) used in poojas at Chidambaram Nataraja Temple, Tamil Nadu. Had been surveying people to ascertain the botanical identity of these roots but could not be successful till date. If possible shall try posting pictures of this sample sometimes i reach this place.
