Una storia, questa storia, una bella storia. Dd501 Drum Kit Manual. Racconto intenso e ricco di significati, metaforico e allo stesso tempo molto concreto, reale per quanto riguarda buona parte del contesto storico. Un padre con un’intuizione ed un figlio che lo segue e poi cerca la sua strada, la sua successione di curve, un susseguirsi di tratti di vita, drammatici, complicati, ma utili a raggiungere la meta, a realizzare il sogno. Una ossessione, una passione per le strade, per il loro tracciato che fa da metafora alla vita, una complicanza via l’altra e la continua voglia di proseguire. Un romanzo bello e all’apparenza meno evanescente, meno onirico di altri di Baricco, eppure ho trovato anche in questa storia un alone di doppio significato, non si tratta di una storia fine a se stessa, ma di un sapiente insieme di emozioni, di punti di vista sull’esistenza, sull’amore. Molto bella e interessante la contestualizzazione storica dell’intera narrazione.

Colpisce particolarmente la prima parte del romanzo, personalmente ho apprezzato le descrizioni dei rapporti fra padre e figlio, della passione di un padre che diventa fonte di una passione per il figlio. Molto intensa anche la parte conclusiva che fa da resoconto e da completo senso al tutto. Una bella scrittura quella di Baricco. Una storia, questa storia, una bella storia.

Especially the short passage in which the feeble-minded half brother of the main character is speaking, is a stylistic gem; and also the evocation of the chaotic retreat of the Italian troops in the first world war (after the battle of Caporetto) can be classified among the better works about horrors of war. Several times Baricco puts us on the wrong leg, and only gradually it becomes clear what the red line is in this story.
